Torrential Rains Claim 8 More Lives, Death Toll Reaches 279

Heavy rains have claimed eight more lives across the country, bringing the total death toll to 279, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). In the past 24 hours alone, eight people lost their lives and 21 others were injured as a result of rain-related incidents.

The NDMA report states that six of the recent fatalities occurred in Punjab, while one death was reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and another in Gilgit-Baltistan. All 21 injuries recorded in the past day were also from Punjab.

So far, the ongoing rains have resulted in 279 deaths and 676 injuries across the country. Punjab remains the hardest-hit region, with 151 people dead and 536 injured. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 64 deaths and 80 injuries, while in Sindh, 25 people have died and 40 have been injured. Balochistan has seen 20 deaths and 4 injuries, Gilgit-Baltistan has reported 9 deaths and 4 injuries, Azad Kashmir has suffered 2 deaths and 10 injuries, and Islamabad has recorded 8 deaths and 3 injuries.

In addition to the human toll, property and livestock have also been severely affected. In the past 24 hours alone, 362 houses were damaged and 7 livestock animals were killed. Overall, since the start of the rainy spell, a total of 1,553 houses have been damaged and 374 animals have perished.
