PMD forecasts more rain in Islamabad, Rawalpindi likely till July 31

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more intermittent monsoon rains in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several parts of the country from Wednesday evening/night to Thursday.

According to PMD, strong monsoon winds are entering upper Pakistan due to a seasonal low in northeast Balochistan and a new westerly wave. These conditions will likely bring more rain and thunderstorms.

Areas Likely to Receive Rain

  • Twin Cities (Islamabad and Rawalpindi)

  • Punjab (including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Murree)

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (including Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar)

  • Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Northeast Balochistan

Heavy rainfall is expected in many areas, especially in Kashmir, Potohar region, and northeast Punjab.

Warnings Issued

  • Flash floods may occur in streams and nullahs of Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Murree, and Kashmir.

  • Urban flooding is possible in low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Peshawar.

  • Landslides may block roads in hilly areas like Murree, Galiyat, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

  • Windstorms/lightning can damage old buildings, electric poles, and solar panels.

Temperature Forecast

  • Islamabad: 34–36°C on Thursday, 33–35°C on Friday

  • Rawalpindi: 33–35°C on Thursday, 32–34°C on Friday

Rainfall in Last 24 Hours

Heavy rain was recorded in many places:

  • Islamabad: Saidpur 91 mm, Zero Point 52 mm

  • Rawalpindi: Shamsabad 81 mm, Kattarian 75 mm

  • Jhelum: 83 mm, Kotli (Kashmir): 75 mm

  • Other areas like Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, and Muzaffarabad also received decent rain.

Dadu was the hottest place in Pakistan with a temperature of 46°C, followed by Dalbandin and Nokkundi at 45°C.
