Monsoon Rains to Continue Till September, Measures Underway to Minimize Losses: NDMA Chairman
Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider has stated that the monsoon spells will continue until the first ten days of September, and precautionary measures are being taken to minimize losses.
During a press briefing, Lieutenant General Inam Haider highlighted the impact of the ongoing monsoon season, stressing that due to intense summer heat, the spread of monsoon rains has been greater this year.
He said flash floods and tourist accidents have been reported in Gilgit-Baltistan, while storm rains have caused damage in Buner, Bajaur, and Battagram. Relief operations are currently underway in the affected districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Lt. Gen. Inam Haider stated that the monsoon spells will continue until the first ten days of September, and precautionary measures are being taken to minimize losses.
He further said that, as per the Prime Minister’s instructions, surveys will be conducted to assess damages, and a complete survey of flood-affected areas will be carried out. Restoration of communication infrastructure will be prioritized.
The NDMA Chairman emphasized that climate change has severely affected Pakistan, making such weather events more frequent and destructive.
