Flood Risk Rises in Karachi as Roads Turn into Ponds After Little Rain
A spell of heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning continues in Karachi, raising the risk of flood that could disrupt daily life in various areas.
Early in the morning, light to heavy rain in different parts of the city turned the weather pleasant, though fears of water accumulation in low-lying areas also increased.
Rainfall was recorded in Malir, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Shah Faisal Colony, Azim Pura, Airport, Model Colony, and Korangi Industrial Area, among other places.
Similarly, intermittent showers continued in Landhi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Korangi, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Defence, Akhtar Colony, Qayyumabad, and Nazimabad.
According to the Meteorological Department, this weather system will continue to affect the city until Wednesday, during which two to three more spells of rain are expected.
These spells could bring 40 to 50 millimeters of rain in different parts of the city, while in some areas rainfall could reach 70 to 80 millimeters.
In certain locations, the rainfall may even touch 100 millimeters.
The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to exercise caution and take necessary measures in line with the weather situation, particularly in areas that already face drainage problems.
