NDMA Issues Heavy Rains Alert, Flood Risk Warning Across Pakistan from Today
Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rains and possible flooding across various regions of Pakistan from August 23 to August 30.
According to the NDMA, Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab are expected to receive heavy downpours during this period.
In Punjab, rainfall is likely in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Sialkot, Gujrat, and Hafizabad.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the affected districts may include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Malakand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Tank, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, and Shigar are expected to receive heavy rains. The authority has also cautioned that landslides could disrupt road links in mountainous areas.
From August 27 to 30, rainfall is forecast for Karachi, as well as Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar. During the same dates, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Dadu, Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, and Larkana are also expected to be affected.
Other Sindh districts likely to receive rainfall between August 27 and 30 include Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
In Balochistan, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, Kalat, Gwadar, Turbat, Kech, and Panjgur may witness heavy downpours during the same period. Rainfall is also expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, and Loralai, while Barkhan, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, and Kohlu may experience intermittent showers.
The NDMA has further warned that the Indus River at Taunsa, Guddu, and Kalabagh could see water flow rising up to 500,000 cusecs, while increased flow is also expected in adjoining areas of the Ravi and Chenab rivers.
