PDMA Issues High Flood Alert for Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab Rivers Until September 5

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a serious warning about an extremely high flood in the rivers Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab. The alert will remain in place until September 5, 2025.

Rising Floodwaters in Punjab

A high-level flood continues at Ganda Singh. The authority has also warned of heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas until September 3, which could trigger urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Gujrat.

The Chenab River has caused widespread devastation. After swallowing hundreds of settlements, the raging waters have now reached Jhang, submerging around 200 villages. At Muzaffargarh, water levels are still rising. In Chiniot’s Bhawana tehsil, many settlements have gone underwater. Crops in Shujaabad have been completely inundated.

At Trimmu Headworks, a dangerous water flow of 800,000 to 900,000 cusecs is passing through, threatening over 400 villages.

Sutlej and Ravi Rivers on High Alert

The situation in nine Punjab districts could worsen due to India’s water release into the Sutlej River. Areas likely to be hit include Kasur, Okara, Bahawalnagar, and Pakpattan. The flood threat also extends to Vehari, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, and Multan.

In River Ravi, the water level is rising at Mari Pattan. Major floods have also been reported at Head Balloki and Sadhnai. In Sahiwal, dozens of villages were submerged after the Aurangabad embankment broke.

Situation Moving Towards Jassar and Shakargarh

After water release at Nainakot, floodwaters are now heading towards Jassar and Shakargarh, raising more concerns for the coming days.

Authorities have urged citizens in low-lying areas to remain cautious and follow official instructions.
