On Monday evening, various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) experienced heavy rain and snowfall, marking a significant change in the weather across northern Pakistan.

Tourists in KP’s Dir district flocked to the Lowari Tunnel to enjoy the fresh snowfall, as picturesque landscapes in areas like Swat, Kalam, Malam Jabba, and surrounding mountainous regions were covered in a blanket of snow. Light rain was also reported in Abbottabad and the Galiyat region, causing temperatures to drop noticeably and intensifying the cold.

Rainfall was observed in several districts of KP, including Peshawar, while the upper regions of Neelum Valley in Azad Kashmir were also blanketed by snow. Intermittent snowfall continued in Upper Neelum, Arang Kel, and nearby areas, enhancing the winter charm of the region.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, snowfall has been ongoing since Sunday night in the higher areas of Chilas, leading to further cooling of the region. Meanwhile, the arrival of a Siberian wind system in the northeastern and central parts of Balochistan is expected to increase the cold, with snowfall also reported in the northern areas of the province.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature recorded in Qalat was minus one degree Celsius, while Quetta saw a low of 2 degrees Celsius, signaling a significant drop in temperatures across the region. The ongoing snowfall and rain are expected to continue, adding to the winter chill in these areas.
