Latest weather update: Is snow expected in Lahore?

13 January, 2026 18:55

LAHORE: Official reports from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have confirmed that Lahore will not see any snowfall this season.

Recently, viral social media posts claimed that the city could experience a “historic” cold wave with up to five inches of snow between January 16 and 25. Authorities, however, have called these reports false and unsupported by scientific data.

Currently, Lahore is experiencing a severe cold wave, with temperatures dropping as low as 4°C. Dense fog has covered the city, reducing visibility on roads and causing flight delays.

While snow is ruled out for Lahore, light rain may occur around January 20-23. Snowfall is only expected in northern mountainous areas like Murree and the Galiyat.

Snowfall in Lahore is extremely rare. The most famous instance was on January 24, 1909. Since then, the city has only seen heavy hailstorms, such as in February 2011, but no actual snow accumulation.

Authorities urge residents to rely on official weather updates and ignore unverified social media claims.
