West Bengal Assembly adopts resolution against Indian law CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) today.
In India, the state (or provincial) legislature passed a resolution against new controversial law.
West Bengal Assembly adopts resolution
While introducing the resolution in the House, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee also spoke. He demanded of the Union government to repeal the amended law.
He also demanded to revoke plans to implement National Register of Citizens and update National Population Register.
With the passage of the resolution, West Bengal has become the fourth State after Kerala, Punjab and Rajasthan to pass the similar resolutions against the law.
Speaking in the House, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said we won’t allow CAA, NPR, and NRC in Bengal.
She vowed to fight peacefully.
Indian Republic Day blasts in Assam
In Indian Assam state, four blasts took place on the eve of Indian Republic Day.
With an armed insurgency going on in India’s northeastern states, dozens of insurgent groups have challenged New Delhi’s rule in the region.
They also waged a guerrilla war.
Some armed groups fighting Indian troops demand a separate homeland. But the others seek regional autonomy.
Meanwhile, Goa state government sponsored lecture seriesd excluded well-known Indian journalist Faye D’Souza from the list of speakers. Because she stand against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
The lecture series would be held from tomorrow at the Kala Academy in Panaji.
