Saudi Arabian deserts receives snowfall for first time in history

04 November, 2024 23:23

In a rare weather phenomenon, parts of Saudi Arabia, particularly the Al-Jawf region, have experienced snowfall and rainfall for the first time in recorded history.

The Saudi Press Agency reports that the mountainous areas have been blanketed in pristine snow, leading to the formation of waterfalls that have revitalized local valleys.

This unexpected precipitation is anticipated to enhance the region’s renowned spring season, which is famous for its vibrant wildflower blooms, including lavender, chrysanthemum, and various aromatic plants.

However, the Saudi weather department has issued warnings for Al-Jawf, Al-Qurayyat, and Tabarjal, advising residents to exercise caution due to heavy rainfall, strong winds, hail, and the potential for flash floods. Strong winds are expected to accompany these storms, further increasing risks for the local population.

The unusual weather pattern is not confined to Saudi Arabia, as neighboring United Arab Emirates has also reported similar conditions, raising concerns across the region. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and advising residents to stay informed and prepared.
