Yahya Sinwar didn’t eat for three days before his martyrdom: report

04 November, 2024 19:39

Yahya Sinwar, the former chief of Hamas, reportedly went without food for three days while engaged in combat against Israeli forces in Gaza, according to sources.

The foreign news outlet cited information from the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat and statements from Hamas officials.

Sinwar, who was martyred during an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) operation in Rafah in October, had communicated with his family two days prior to his death, sharing news of his cousin Ibrahim Muhammad Sinwar’s martyrdom.

Despite being aware that Israeli forces were closing in on him, Sinwar chose to remain above ground to continue his resistance.

A video captured by an Israeli drone showed Sinwar injured and attempting to resist by throwing an object at the drone while seated in a damaged house.

His death was confirmed by Israeli media on October 18, with the IDF later verifying his identity through DNA testing.

Born in the Khan Younis refugee camp, Sinwar joined Hamas in 1987 and became one of Israel’s most wanted figures. He spent 23 years in Israeli prisons before being released in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange.

He advocated for a unified Palestinian state that includes Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
