Islamophobia reaches record levels in UK after Gaza war

19 February, 2025 12:13

Islamophobia in the UK has reached record levels in 2024, according to the monitoring group “Tell Mama”.

The monitoring group said that after the Gaza war, there was a huge increase in anti-Muslim hatred in the UK.

In 2024, 5,837 cases of Islamophobia were reported, compared to 3,767 in 2023.

In 2022, the same number was 2,201, which shows that Muslim hatred is increasing annually. This data has been compiled in collaboration with UK police forces.

According to the report, the Gaza War has severely promoted anti-Muslim hatred online and Islamophobia has increased even after the killing of three young girls in Southport, Britain.

Misinformation was spread on social media that the killer was an extremist migrant, resulting in riots by right-wing extremists and anti-immigration groups.

Eman Atta, director of Tell Mama, said: “This increase is unacceptable and dangerous for the future of the Muslim community in the UK, we call on the government to take immediate and coordinated steps to end Islamophobia.” “
