Two Muslim women attacked in Australia for wearing hijab
A 31-year-old Australian woman has been arrested for assaulting two Muslim women over wearing hijab.
According to police, the incident could have been an attack under Islamophobia.
The incident took place on February 13 at the Aping shopping centre, where the attacker allegedly pulled off the hijab of a 30-year-old pregnant woman and strangulated her, while the 26-year-old woman was tortured, separately.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the incident, saying “any form of violence on religious grounds is unacceptable, and the perpetrators must face strict legal action.”
The police have announced to arrest the woman and produce her before the court. One of the victims, Alaf al-Asawi, described the attack as “horrific and heartbreaking”.
