Israel, Hamas cease-fire talks resume in Cairo
Why is the Gaza Strip called the biggest prison in the world?
Delegations from Israel, Qatar and the United States have arrived in Cairo, where talks are underway on the second phase of a ceasefire with Hamas.
The talks are taking place at a time when the Israeli military has acknowledged its complete failure to stop the Hamas attack in 2023.
Israeli officials acknowledged that the military miscalculated Hamas’ strength and failed to stop its attack.
According to Egyptian officials, “the relevant parties are engaged in negotiating the next stages of the ceasefire agreement, to ensure the implementation of the pre-agreed agreements.” ”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office sent negotiators to Cairo after the first phase of the ceasefire ends on Saturday.
In the first phase, Hamas returned the bodies of four Israeli hostages, in exchange for the release of 643 Palestinian prisoners. Among them was Nile Barghousi, the longest serving Palestinian in Israeli prisons.
“We were in hell and came out of hell today, today is my real birthday,” said Yahya Sharaidah, a palestinian prisoner who was released.
“We have closed the path of false interpretations of the enemy, and now it has no choice but to join the negotiations,” Hamas said. ”
The talks are taking place at a crucial juncture, where both sides are considering measures for the release of more prisoners and a permanent ceasefire to prevent further destruction and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
