King of Muslim country appeals to people not to sacrifice on Eid-ul-Azha

01 March, 2025 17:30

The king of the big Islamic country has appealed to the people to avoid sacrifice on Eid-ul-Azha this year due to drought.

According to international media, Moroccan citizens have been instructed to avoid sacrificing on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha this year.

This decision to avoid sacrifice has been taken in view of the ongoing drought and economic difficulties in the country.

According to reports, Morocco has been suffering from a continuous drought for the last seven years, resulting in a 38 per cent decrease in the number of cattle.

According to agriculture ministry data, 53 per cent less rainfall was recorded this year compared to the average rainfall in the last 30 years, which has pushed the country towards severe drought.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, while addressing the public, urged that sacrifices should be avoided on Eid-ul-Azha in view of the current environmental and economic challenges.

He said in a statement on state TV that due to the rapid decline in the number of cattle and the increase in meat prices, it is necessary to limit the practice of sacrifice this year.

This is not the first time Morocco has appealed not to sacrifice on Eid-ul-Azha. A similar appeal was made in 1966 by King Hassan II, the father of the current ruler, King Mohammed VI, when the country was in famine.

In the current situation, the government has appealed to the citizens to cooperate so that the drought and economic difficulties faced by the country can be overcome.
