Ukraine agrees to US-led ceasefire plan

Ukraine has accepted the plan for a 30-day ceasefire.

The United States and Ukraine said in a joint statement that the latter has agreed to an immediate 30-day ceasefire under the US plan.

Ukraine has accepted the US plan to take steps to restore lasting peace after the ceasefire and Russian intervention, the statement said.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he would now make an offer to Russia and that the ball was now in Moscow’s court.

“President Trump wanted the war to end earlier, but we hope that Russia will respond as soon as possible so that we can enter the second phase of negotiations,” he said.

Ukrainian President Zelensky is also in Saudi Arabia, but he did not participate in the talks, but he said the ceasefire was a positive proposal.

Zelensky further said the ceasefire is a positive plan that deals with conflict on the front and involves air and naval warfare.

His close aide said various aspects of security guarantees for Ukraine were also discussed with US officials during the meeting, but did not elaborate.

During the meeting in Saudi Arabia, the two sides also agreed to conclude the comprehensive agreement on minerals in Ukraine as soon as possible, the joint statement said.
