Canada’s newly-elected PM announces early elections
Canada’s newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced early elections in the country.
PM Mark Carney on Sunday announced early elections in the country on April 28 to give his government a strong mandate.
He said: “I have requested the governor general to dissolve parliament and announce elections on April 28.”
Canada’s election will be a close contest between the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party on 343 seats.
The Canadian prime minister proposed a tax cut for the middle class and said that US President Trump wants to break us so that he can rule over us. We are facing a crisis due to Trump’s unfair tariffs and trade measures, he added.
Carney, the leader of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party, was sworn in as the country’s 24th prime minister on March 14.
This marked the end of Justin Trudeau’s nearly 10-year rule.
Trudeau announced in January that he was stepping down as prime minister under pressure over inflation and threats of a trade war with the United States.
