Over 500 dead in in Myanmar and Thailand earthquake

The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand has soared over 500, while 732 individuals are reportedly injured.

It is featured that the death toll may raise, as relief and rescue efforts are underway.

According to global news agencies, the epicenter of a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake was near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, occurring at a depth of 10 kilometers underground.

Rescue teams are working day and night to pull people trapped under the rubble.

The U.S. Geological Survey, an American government science agency, estimated that the death toll could top 1,000.

The quake was so intense that its tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok, which is located 900 kilometers from the epicenter.

Several building were collapsed during the quake, as the discovery of bodies continues as rescue operations proceed, with estimates suggesting the total casualties could be between 1,000 and 10,000.

Tremors were also felt in various parts of India, including Meghalaya, Manipur, and even in the capitals of Bangladesh, Dhaka and Chittagong.

The effects reached China as well. In response to the calamity, the Thai government has declared a state of emergency in Bangkok.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered assistance to the Myanmar government, following which Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar announced that India has dispatched 15 tons of relief supplies to Myanmar, including solar lamps, food packets, and kitchen sets.

The supplies were sent via an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft.
