Saudi Arabia restricts multiple-entry visas for Pakistan

04 April, 2025 19:49

Saudi Arabia has updated its visa regulations for travelers from 14 countries, including Pakistan, by restricting multiple-entry visas for business, tourism, and family visits during the annual Hajj season.

The revised visa rules took effect on February 1, 2025. Previously, travelers from these 14 nations could obtain one-year multiple-entry visas, but under the new policy, they are now eligible only for single-entry visas valid for 30 days. This change applies to tourists, business visitors, and family members. However, Hajj, Umrah, diplomatic, and residency visas remain unaffected.

The affected countries include Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen. Saudi authorities stated that these changes aim to regulate visitor inflows more efficiently and enhance overall immigration control.

Reasons Behind the Policy Change

The primary motivation behind this decision is to curb unauthorized participation in Hajj. In previous years, many individuals entered the country on multiple-entry visas and overstayed to perform Hajj, causing overcrowding and safety concerns. Additionally, some visitors on business and family visas engaged in unauthorized employment, violating visa regulations and disrupting labor market stability.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasized that the revised visa policies will improve security and organization. Authorities have urged travelers to comply with the new regulations to avoid penalties.

Impact on Travelers and Industries

Frequent travelers, particularly business professionals who visit Saudi Arabia multiple times a year, will now need to apply for a visa each time they travel. Families with relatives in Saudi Arabia also face increased restrictions under the new rules.

Travel agencies predict longer visa processing times due to an increased number of applications. Experts recommend that travelers plan their trips well in advance to avoid last-minute disruptions. The hospitality and aviation industries are also expected to feel the impact, with fluctuating airline ticket sales and potential decreases in short-term hotel bookings.

Authorities have also aligned these visa revisions with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to expand the tourism sector while maintaining strict immigration policies.

Recommendations for Travelers

Saudi authorities advise travelers to adhere to the new visa regulations to prevent travel disruptions. Those preparing for Hajj should register early, update their health information, and ensure they list the names of accompanying pilgrims. The government will prioritize first-time pilgrims in the booking process, with eligible travelers receiving notifications accordingly.

Additionally, those eligible for mahram (male guardian) exemptions should apply in advance to streamline the visa approval process.

As Saudi Arabia continues implementing its immigration reforms, further policy adjustments may arise. Travelers are encouraged to stay updated on official announcements and plan their visits accordingly to ensure a smooth travel experience.
