Israeli strikes harm 100 children daily in Gaza: UN

05 April, 2025 12:20

Since Israel resumed its military offensive on Gaza on March 18, violating the ceasefire, at least 100 Palestinian children have been killed or injured daily, according to Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Lazzarini described the situation as “devastating,” stressing that there is no justification for the loss of innocent children’s lives. Citing UNICEF data, he confirmed that the daily toll of child casualties has remained alarmingly high since the attacks resumed.

Expressing deep concern, Lazzarini called for urgent action to protect Gaza’s children, emphasizing that they are suffering in a war they did not start. Since the conflict began 1.5 years ago, approximately 15,000 children have lost their lives. He noted that the previous ceasefire had briefly offered Gaza’s children a glimpse of normalcy, only for violence to return and shatter their hopes. He described Gaza as a “no land” for children.

“This is a blight on our shared humanity,,” Lazzarini said, calling for an immediate restoration of the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take decisive action against Israel’s continued aggression in Gaza. During a recent UNSC session, Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stated that Israel’s actions violate the UN Charter, international law, and its ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

He underscored the need for the global community to take a stand against what he described as a severe humanitarian crisis and a tragic failure of human conscience.
