Trump orders removal of Harvard University’s tax exemption

17 April, 2025 13:30

US President Donald Trump’s administration has ordered the removal of Harvard University’s tax exemption.

According to foreign media reports, the Trump administration ordered the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to end Harvard University’s tax exemption.

The president has already frozen more than $2billion in federal grants for Harvard University.

The White House demanded that Harvard University make changes to the process of providing jobs, admissions and teaching to prevent anti-Semitism on campus.

However, the university rejected the Trump administration’s demand, saying that the White House was trying to take control of Harvard University.

After which the Trump administration has taken strict action regarding Harvard University’s tax exemption.

In the United States, charities, religious, educational organizations and civil welfare groups have tax exemption status, but they are also required to comply with the laws regarding not participating in certain political activities.

Experts say that there is no evidence that Harvard University has violated these rules and the IRS has to be neutral in this matter.

However, according to US media, President Trump has already made political appointments by removing many key officials in the IRS.

US President Donald Trump had criticized Harvard University, saying that the institution did not deserve federal funding.
