Taliban sold US weapons abandoned in Afghanistan to terrorists: report

British media have claimed that the Afghan Taliban sold 500,000 weapons left behind by the US army to terrorists.

More than 500,000 US weapons were lost, which were sold or smuggled to terrorist groups after the Taliban came to power.

The US weapons abandoned in Afghanistan also went to al-Qaeda-linked organizations, according to the UN report. Al-Qaeda-affiliated organizations have access to American weapons in Afghanistan.

The report also said that the Taliban told the UN Security Council committee that the military could not account for at least half of the equipment.

An official of the Security Council committee said that about 500,000 military equipment in Afghanistan is not known.

The Taliban seized nearly a million weapons and equipment after taking over Afghanistan in 2021.

Hamdullah Prakriti, deputy spokesman for the Taliban government in Afghanistan, told the British broadcasting agency that they take the issue of the protection and storage of weapons seriously, all light and heavy weapons are fully safe, strongly rejecting claims of smuggling or damage.
