Sharjah cancels traffic fines older than 10 years
Sharjah has announced that all traffic fines older than 10 years will now be cancelled, with a few exceptions. This decision was made during a Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) meeting, which was led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the SEC.
According to the new rule, any traffic violation issued by Sharjah Police will be waived if it has been more than 10 years since the violation occurred. However, to apply for this fine cancellation, a fee of Dh1,000 must be paid.
There are a few situations where this Dh1,000 fee will not be charged:
If the vehicle owner has died and this can be officially confirmed.
If the vehicle owner has been out of the country continuously for 10 years or more.
If the vehicle is abandoned and the owner cannot be located.
This move is seen as a step to support residents and reduce the burden of long-standing fines, while also clearing old traffic violation records. However, the decision still requires individuals to request the waiver and meet the listed conditions formally.
