Government confirms eight more Bank Holidays before the end of 2025
The Government has confirmed that people in the UK will get “eight more bank holidays before the end of 2025”. But it’s important to know that not all of them apply to the entire UK.
Over the recent Easter weekend, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland enjoyed two bank holidays: Good Friday (April 18) and Easter Monday (April 21). Scotland, on the other hand, only had Good Friday off.
Earlier this week, the official Government X account shared the “full list of remaining bank holidays for 2025”. According to the post, Monday, May 5 and Monday, May 26 will be bank holidays across the UK. Christmas Day and Boxing Day (December 25 and 26) are also confirmed as UK-wide holidays.
Some holidays are specific to regions:
Northern Ireland will observe the Battle of the Boyne holiday on Monday, July 14.
Scotland will have a summer bank holiday on Monday, August 4.
England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will celebrate their summer bank holiday on Monday, August 25.
Scotland also gets a bank holiday on Monday, December 1, for St Andrew’s Day, according to Birmingham Live.
There were talks about adding a bank holiday on Thursday, May 8, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. But the Prime Minister’s spokesperson said back in November:
“We will look to use the existing May Day bank holiday for commemorative events.”
They also added:
“We are committed to commemorating these nationally important occasions appropriately which is why we have announced more than £10m to mark them.”
