Trump Offers to Mediate Kashmir Issue, Commends India, Pakistan for Ceasefire Agreement
US President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to mediate the long-standing Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, stating he would “work with both countries to see if, after a thousand years,” a resolution could be found.
In a recent social media post, the 78-year-old President praised the leadership of both nations for their wisdom in avoiding further escalation, highlighting the risk of widespread death and destruction. Trump emphasized that averting war and saving millions was a “legacy of brave actions.”
“I am proud that the US was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision,” Trump said. He also mentioned his intention to increase trade with both nations to strengthen relations, although this has yet to be officially discussed.
Trump reiterated his commitment to mediating the decades-old Kashmir issue, saying, “I will work with both to see if after a thousand years a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done.”
Earlier, Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire under US mediation. “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” he said. “Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, confirmed the ceasefire agreement in an interview, stating that the ceasefire had been in place since 4:30 pm.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also chimed in, revealing that both he and the Vice President had been in contact with senior officials from Pakistan and India for the past 48 hours. “I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” he said.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Masri confirmed the ceasefire as well, adding that all military operations on both sides would be suspended.
