Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing intense criticism over alleged corruption tied to the Rafale fighter jet agreement, with multiple reports highlighting serious irregularities. During Operation Baniyan Marsous, explosive claims emerged accusing Modi of large-scale corruption in the Rafale deal.
The controversy intensified after the reported failure of Rafale jets during Operation Sindoor, which significantly dented Modi’s image. The loss of these jets in military operations against Pakistan triggered widespread backlash, with critics accusing Modi of both strategic missteps and financial misconduct.
According to a report by the BBC, Modi’s administration received a secret commission of €7.5 million as part of the Rafale deal. The report also raised concerns about inflated pricing and described the agreement as suspicious. Indian businessman Sushen Gupta was identified as the recipient of the covert payment under the deal.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had previously questioned the transparency of the Rafale purchase, asserting that billions of dollars were siphoned through fraudulent means. He also noted that the then Defence Minister from the ruling BJP was excluded from the deal and eventually resigned, further deepening suspicions.
The Rafale controversy continues to be a major political flashpoint, with allegations of corruption and mismanagement casting a long shadow over Modi’s government.
