US Praise Pakistan-India Ceasefire, Urges Continued Diplomacy

US has welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India, highlighting the importance of peace and diplomacy in resolving longstanding issues.

During a press briefing, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated, “We welcome the ceasefire reached between India and Pakistan this weekend and commend both prime ministers for choosing the path of peace.” He further emphasized that the U.S. remains focused on promoting direct communication between the two countries to ensure regional stability.

When asked about potential geopolitical consequences, Pigott reiterated the administration’s commitment to global peace efforts, noting President Trump’s continued role as a “peacemaker and dealmaker.” However, he refrained from speculating further on unfolding developments, stressing the U.S. stance in favor of conflict resolution and sustained diplomatic engagement.

The ceasefire, which took effect over the weekend, is seen as a positive move toward de-escalating tensions between the neighboring countries. The U.S. government is monitoring the situation closely and continues to support initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue and cooperation between India and Pakistan.

President Trump also praised the agreement, calling it a “testament to strength, wisdom, and fortitude on both sides.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military media wing, ISPR, reported heavy losses resulting from prior Indian aggression. According to ISPR, “On the night of 6–7 May 2025, the Indian Armed Forces launched unprovoked and reprehensible dastardly attacks targeting innocent civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.” The attacks led to the martyrdom of eleven soldiers and forty civilians, with seventy-eight soldiers and 121 civilians injured.
