50 Palestinians Killed After Israeli Strike Hits Refugee Shelter School in Northern Gaza
In a tragic surge of violence, Israeli airstrikes struck a refugee shelter school in northern Gaza on Monday, killing over 50 Palestinians, including numerous children, according to local rescue teams.
Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency confirmed that at least 52 people were killed in the Israeli airstrike, with 33 of them reportedly taking shelter in a school at the time. Emergency responders stated that many of the victims were children. The Israeli military claimed the facility was being used by militants, a rationale that has drawn widespread international condemnation and heightened concerns for civilian safety.
The strike was part of a larger series of attacks across Gaza as the conflict continues to escalate.
At the same time, diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire are ongoing. In Doha, Qatar, Hamas representatives and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff have reportedly reached a tentative deal. Arab media report that the draft agreement includes a 60-day ceasefire, during which 10 Israeli hostages would be released in stages, along with a phased release of Palestinian detainees.
According to the proposed terms, five hostages would be freed at the beginning of the ceasefire, and the remaining five at its conclusion. The United States, under the mediation of President Donald Trump, is expected to oversee the ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Despite apparent progress in the talks, international media reports suggest that Israel has rejected the latest ceasefire proposal.
Israel resumed its offensives in Gaza on March 18, breaking an earlier ceasefire agreement. Since the conflict intensified on October 7, 2023, local health authorities report that over 54,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 100,000 injured.
