The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that three soldiers have been killed during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip.
The announcement followed a statement from Hamas’ armed wing on Monday, which said its fighters were engaged in “fierce clashes” with Israeli forces in the same area.
Israel launched its offensive in Gaza after claiming that Hamas conducted a surprise attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of 251 hostages into Gaza, with an additional four hostages already held by Hamas.
The ongoing Israeli campaign has caused severe destruction across Gaza, with more than 54,000 Palestinians killed and most buildings destroyed. A significant portion of the population is now living in shelters within makeshift camps.
In response to the worsening humanitarian crisis, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated on Monday that the situation in Gaza was deteriorating rapidly and stressed the urgent need for increased humanitarian aid.
“The situation is intolerable in Gaza, and getting worse by the day,” Starmer said during a press briefing in Scotland. “We are working with allies to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza quickly and in the volumes it desperately needs, which it is not currently receiving, resulting in absolute devastation.”
