Modi Attempts to Hide Failures with Billions of Rupees on Government Advertising

09 June, 2025 11:28

The Modi government is continuously engaged in misleading the Indian public to save its political reputation.

For the year 2025-26, the Modi government has allocated a budget of over 12 billion rupees for public advertising. In the previous financial year, the Modi government spent 12.28 billion rupees on public advertising.

Imposing restrictions on independent media and crackdown on Indian news channels have been a longstanding practice of the Modi government.

Major Indian corporate entities, such as Reliance Industries and the Adani Group, have complete control over Indian media channels.

The Adani Group’s takeover of NDTV is a clear example of restricting media freedom and criticism of the government.

Over the past 15 years, Reliance Industries and Adani Enterprises have taken control of several key and popular media outlets.

Relations with the Modi government have proven to be the biggest support for Indian business groups, enabling them to dominate the media market.

Editorial policies of media groups linked to government-connected corporate owners fail to fully reflect the facts.

Due to pressure from business and advertising interests in media organizations, news reporting and independent journalism have been severely affected.

Allocating billions of rupees for government broadcasting is a clear indication of increased propaganda by the pro-government (paid) media.
