Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of Iranβs Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, was martyred in an Israeli airstrike on an IRGC facility inside Iran, according to a public statement by the IRGC.
He had led the force for 16 years and was a central figure in Iranβs missile and drone programs.
Israel launched major airstrikes early this morning, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and top military officials. The strikes resulted in the deaths of several senior figures in Iranβs military leadership.
General Hossein Salami, commander of the IRGC, General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of Iranβs Armed Forces, and Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, were all confirmed dead. Multiple other high-ranking IRGC officers were also reported killed.
Iranian media reported that six nuclear scientists were martyred during the attacks on nuclear sites. Among them were Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, who was also the head of Azad University. Fereydoun Abbasi, former head of Iranβs Atomic Energy Organization, and scientist Abdul Hamid Manouchehr also died in the strikes.
The list of scientists killed also includes Seyed Amirhossein Faqihi and Motallebi Zadeh, as per Iranian sources.
The Israeli strikes represent one of the most severe blows to Iranβs military and nuclear leadership in recent years. Tensions in the region remain high as international observers monitor the situation closely.
