Israeli Attacks on Iran Weren’t Possible Without US Support, Not Seeking Wider War: Iranian FM

15 June, 2025 13:17

Tehran– Iran has accused the United States of backing recent Israeli strikes on its territory, claiming the attacks would not have been possible without American support. The Iranian government also said that Israel crossed all red lines by targeting its nuclear facilities.

In a press briefing, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned Israel’s actions, stating that Iran was left with no choice but to retaliate. “We were compelled to target economic objectives in response. Our retaliatory attacks were purely in self-defense, which is our fundamental right,” Araghchi asserted.

He emphasized that Tehran does not seek to escalate the conflict unless provoked further. “We are not looking to widen the war, especially into neighboring countries,” he added.

Araghchi also pointed to what he described as clear evidence of US involvement in supporting Israeli aggression. He reiterated that Iran would not accept any agreement that limits its right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Meanwhile, China voiced its full support for Iran. In a phone conversation with Araghchi, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi condemned Israel’s use of excessive force and declared any aggression against Iran unacceptable.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang reaffirmed Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy and stated that China will continue to oppose violations of international law. He urged Israel to cease its military actions and avoid further escalation.

Wang also spoke with his Israeli counterpart, expressing concern over rising tensions in the Middle East and advising Israel to halt military operations to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
