World Leaders Urge Calm as Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates
Iran-Israel Conflict
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and former U.S. President Donald Trump held urgent phone calls to discuss the growing conflict between Israel and Iran, calling for immediate efforts to de-escalate tensions.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency, President Erdoğan warned that Israel’s strikes on Iran have caused irreversible economic and civilian damage, and stressed the need for urgent action to stop the crisis from engulfing the entire Middle East.
During the call, Erdoğan welcomed Trump’s recent comments supporting a peaceful resolution, and reiterated that diplomacy is the only solution to Iran’s nuclear issue. He expressed Türkiye’s willingness to mediate and facilitate negotiations between both nations.
The two leaders also discussed broader regional issues and bilateral relations, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, Trump posted on Truth Social, saying: “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal,” indicating that multiple calls and meetings were taking place behind the scenes to restore peace.
The conflict erupted on Friday, when Israel launched major attacks on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, killing several high-ranking commanders and scientists. Iran has since retaliated, escalating fears of a broader war in the region.
Erdoğan and Trump also spoke on Saturday, underscoring the urgency of international diplomacy.
