At least 20 people have been killed and over 200 injured in Israel following multiple waves of Iranian missile strikes, according to Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service and official media reports.
The MDA confirmed on Monday that five people were killed and 87 injured in the most recent barrage, bringing the total death toll in Israel to 20 since hostilities began over the weekend. The latest fatalities include two men and two women, all approximately 70 years old, who were hit in central Israeli cities.
Israeli media also reported massive power outages, especially in Haifa and Tel Aviv, and fires at key infrastructure sites including the Haifa Power Plant.
Iran Rejects Ceasefire Talks Under Fire
Iran has told mediators from Qatar and Oman it will not engage in ceasefire negotiations while under Israeli attacks, according to a Reuters report quoting a senior official familiar with the discussions.
“Iran made it clear that it will not negotiate while under attack,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Iran reportedly insists it will only consider negotiations after completing its military response to Israeli strikes.
Iran Launches Fresh Missile Barrage
In response to Israeli airstrikes, Iranian armed forces launched nearly 100 missiles on Monday morning targeting multiple cities including Tel Aviv and Haifa. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed a new attack method was used to confuse and overwhelm Israeli defense systems.
U.S. Involvement and Trump’s Position
Former U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly blocked an Israeli attempt to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to U.S. officials cited by Reuters.
“Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do, we’re not even talking about going after the political leadership,” said a senior U.S. official.
Trump also stated on Truth Social that Iran and Israel “will have peace soon”, despite no concrete evidence of talks or de-escalation. He warned Iran that any attack on the U.S. would provoke an unprecedented military response.
