India Leaves Kashmiri Students Stranded in War-Hit Iran

18 June, 2025 20:14

India has come under criticism for leaving Kashmiri students stranded in Iran amid escalating tensions following missile strikes from Tehran.

According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in Iranian cities like Tehran and Ahvaz are caught in the middle of sirens and explosions, fearing for their lives while awaiting help that hasn’t come.

While Pakistan and several Arab countries have evacuated their students from conflict zones, Kashmiri students say they feel abandoned. They allege that the Indian government has shown indifference toward their plight, raising concerns about possible discrimination. Students claim that if they were Hindus rather than Kashmiri Muslims, the government’s response might have been different.

Parents of the stranded students are desperately trying to reach their children, but their calls and prayers appear to go unanswered. The Indian embassy in Iran, students report, has remained unresponsive, acting as a silent spectator while distress calls pour in.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association revealed that nearly 1,500 students from the region are currently in Iran. They wrote a letter to the Modi government seeking urgent intervention, but no response has been received. Meanwhile, the global media continues to cover the Iran conflict, but the voices of these students remain largely unheard.

A Kashmiri student expressed frustration, saying, “We are making telephone calls, but the embassy is silent.” The cries of their worried mothers seem to echo unanswered through the corridors of power in New Delhi.
