Iran-Israel war: Why Tehran telling people to delete WhatsApp

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, has raised serious concerns after a campaign in Iran called for people to delete the app. Iranian state TV recently urged the public to remove WhatsApp from their phones, claiming that the app collects users’ personal data and shares it with Israel.

In response, WhatsApp, which Meta owns, strongly denied these claims. The company said, “We are deeply concerned about these false allegations. We worry that this could be used as a reason to block our service — especially when people need WhatsApp to stay in touch with family and friends.”

WhatsApp further explained that it does not track users’ locations, does not store who messages whom, and cannot read private messages. The company also made it clear that it does not give bulk data to any government.

WhatsApp is widely known for its end-to-end encryption, which means that only the sender and receiver can read the messages — not even WhatsApp itself. The company assured users that their privacy and security remain a top priority.
