Trump Approves Military Plan for Potential Strike on Iran, Final Order on Hold: The Wall Street Journal
President Donald Trump has approved a military plan for a potential strike on Iran, though he has held off issuing the final order, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The report indicates that the delay comes as the White House awaits Tehran’s response to an offer made prior to any military action.
Sources cited in the report say that Trump informed his senior advisers on Tuesday night that he had given preliminary approval for the strike plan. However, he emphasized that the final decision hinges on Iran’s willingness to abandon its nuclear program.
According to the report, a key target under consideration is Iran’s Fordow enrichment facility. Located deep beneath a mountain, the site is regarded as one of the most fortified in the country. Experts believe that only highly powerful bombs would be capable of effectively destroying it.
In response to a question on the matter, President Trump stated, “I could do it, and maybe I won’t,” adding that the upcoming week — or perhaps even less than a week — will be crucial. He reiterated his demand for Iran to fully abandon its nuclear ambitions without any preconditions.
