Iran launches ballistic missile attack on Israel in Beersheba
Early Friday, Iran launched a fresh wave of missile attacks targeting southern Israel, with one missile striking Beersheba’s tech park, close to a Microsoft office. The attack caused fires, damaged several vehicles, and affected nearby residential buildings. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, though five people suffered minor injuries. Emergency teams responded promptly and managed to control the situation.
This strike follows Thursday’s missile attack on Soroka Medical Center, which injured around 70 people and damaged parts of the hospital. In retaliation, Israel had earlier targeted Iran’s Arak heavy-water reactor. Israeli officials are now investigating possible failures in the Arrow missile defense system, as it may have failed to intercept the latest incoming missile. U.S. authorities have also voiced concern over the rapid depletion of Israel’s Arrow missile stockpile.
The latest barrage—reportedly over 20 ballistic missiles, including the first confirmed use of cluster munitions—continues a week-long exchange of fire between the two nations. Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drones, while Israel has targeted major Iranian nuclear sites like Arak, Natanz, and the SPND research center in Tehran.
The conflict, now in its eighth day, has resulted in over 639 Iranian casualties and several Israeli civilian injuries. Iran insists it is striking military and intelligence targets, but Israel rejects this claim, highlighting weaknesses in its air defense system.
Western countries including Britain, France, and Germany are pushing for peace. President Trump has postponed a decision on U.S. involvement for two weeks but signaled readiness by deploying aircraft and naval forces to the Eastern Mediterranean. Meanwhile, Iran has threatened broader retaliation, including targeting U.S. bases and mining the Strait of Hormuz.
Diplomatic efforts are underway, with European leaders meeting Iranian official Abbas Araghchi. Another round of talks is expected today in Geneva under EU leadership, raising hope for a potential ceasefire.
