Top House Democrat Slams Trump Over Air Strikes on Iran

22 June, 2025 10:21

On Saturday, the highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives sharply criticized US President Donald Trump for ordering air strikes against Iran, accusing him of leading the country toward war.

In a statement, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries accused President Trump of misleading the American people about his intentions, bypassing Congress by failing to seek authorization for military action, and risking the United States’ involvement in a dangerous and potentially devastating conflict in the Middle East.

Earlier, the United States launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, with former President Donald Trump announcing on Saturday that the mission was a “very successful attack” and confirming that all US aircraft involved had returned safely.

According to Trump, the United States hit three primary nuclear sites in Iran: Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. The Fordo facility, located under a mountain near the religious city of Qom, was reportedly struck with a “full payload of bombs.”

Trump urged Iran to “agree to end this war” and expressed hope for a peaceful resolution. However, it remains uncertain whether the strikes will prompt Iran to de-escalate or escalate the situation further.
