'We Reserve the Right to Defend Ourselves:' Iranian FM Araghchi
Tehran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned the recent US military action against Iran, emphasizing that Iran reserves the right to defend itself.
In a press briefing, the Iranian foreign minister calling it a blatant violation of international law and a direct threat to the country’s sovereignty.
He accused the United States of launching a sudden and unprovoked attack. “The United States launched a sudden attack on Iran,” he stated.
Highlighting the gravity of the incident, Araghchi added, “The US targeted our nuclear assets.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that Tehran would not bow to pressure. “We will not compromise on our freedom and sovereignty,” he asserted.
Warning of the repercussions, Araghchi said, “American aggression will have devastating consequences.”
He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to national defense, saying, “Iran will continue to protect its borders and its people.”
Describing the attacks as illegal under international law, he stated, “The US attacks are a violation of the UN Charter.”
Araghchi called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take urgent notice. “We demand the IAEA convene a high-level meeting,” he said.
He further urged global diplomatic intervention, stating, “A Security Council emergency meeting should be called to condemn the US attack.”
Concluding his remarks, Araghchi criticized US President Donald Trump, saying, “By launching this attack, President Trump has broken his promises to his own people.”
