Trump Says US Strikes on Iran Brought Peace, Urges NATO to Boost Defense Spending

25 June, 2025 19:42

The Hague – US President Donald Trump addressed the NATO summit on Wednesday, highlighting the success of recent American strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites and their impact on peace in the region.

Trump claimed that the attacks helped enforce a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. “Peace came because of our actions,” he said. “We did what was necessary to stop war.”

He confirmed that Iran’s nuclear facilities at Fordow were completely destroyed and expressed confidence that Iran is now years behind in its nuclear program. “We made sure Iran cannot build a nuclear bomb,” Trump stated, adding that “it was like Hiroshima and Nagasaki — this attack ended the war.”

Trump revealed that 30 missiles were fired at Iranian targets from US submarines positioned 400 km away, and that all 14 missiles fired by Iran toward US bases in Qatar were intercepted. He said US forces had already evacuated the air base in Qatar before the attack.

He appreciated that Iran gave an early warning before launching missiles, calling it a “positive gesture.”

“Our military is the best in the world,” Trump said proudly. “We have the most advanced weapons on the planet.”

Addressing NATO members, Trump called for each country to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035, saying “the burden of military costs must be shared.”

“America can’t do it alone,” he added.

Trump also criticized the media, calling CNN and The New York Times sources of fake news. “They waste everyone’s time — no one listens to them anymore,” he said.

The US president made it clear that he does not expect another war between Iran and Israel, insisting that the military strikes have secured long-term peace in the region.
