Modi Government Violates Religious Freedom of Indian Muslims by Banning Azan
The Modi government has violated the religious freedom of Indian Muslims by banning the Azan (call to prayer).
After the ban on loudspeakers in mosques in Mumbai, Azan (call to prayer) has effectively been banned as well.
To listen to the Azan, Muslims in Mumbai have started using the ‘Online Azan’ app. This mobile app is also now being used to know the prayer timings.
The app was developed by a company from Tamil Nadu and is now being used by mosques and worshippers in Mumbai.
After the ban on loudspeakers, many mosques in Mumbai have registered on the ‘Online Azan’ app.
Prayer timings are also now obtained through the app, which provides notifications for all five daily prayers and the azan.
Worshippers also receive mobile notifications for congregational prayers.
According to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, “Mumbai city is now completely free from loudspeakers.”
Police officials have successfully completed the removal of public address systems from all religious places. Deven Bharti said,
“Mumbai is now free from noise,” claimed the Mumbai police.
Is this new attack by Modi’s government on Muslims part of a policy to erase the religious identity of Indian Muslims?
