Trump Urges Hamas to Accept 60-Day Ceasefire Amid Intensifying Israeli Operations in Gaza
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday called on Hamas to accept a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Israel had agreed to the terms necessary to finalize such a deal. His comments come as Israeli forces ramp up military operations across the Palestinian enclave.
Posting on social media, Trump said his representatives had met with Israeli officials regarding the ongoing conflict, ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned visit to Washington on July 7.
“Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump wrote.
“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” he added.
Trump also confirmed that Qatari and Egyptian mediators would deliver what he described as the “final proposal.”
Speaking earlier Tuesday during a visit to a migrant detention center in Florida, Trump said he would be “very firm” with Netanyahu during their upcoming meeting. He noted Netanyahu “wants to end it too.”
The ceasefire push follows the conclusion of Israel’s 12-day war with Iran, sparked by a US bombing campaign on Tehran’s nuclear sites. Trump reportedly sees the ceasefire as an opportunity to secure another peace achievement in the region.
Israeli Aggression on Gaza Continues
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has intensified. At least 26 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday, as the Israeli army expanded its operations, claiming to target Hamas infrastructure. Local residents reported increased airstrikes and shelling, forcing many to flee.
Sixteen civilians were killed near aid distribution sites, with ten others dying in separate strikes. The Israeli military stated it fired warning shots and denied knowledge of casualties, pledging to review the incidents.
The International Committee of the Red Cross expressed deep concern over the worsening violence and the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system. A coalition of 169 aid organizations criticized the current US- and Israeli-backed aid distribution system, calling for a return to the previous UN-led mechanism. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation denied responsibility for recent aid-related deaths.
Netanyahu Visit to US
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet US President Donald Trump next week. Hamas has expressed willingness to consider any proposal that would lead to a permanent ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal, but no breakthrough has been achieved.
