Elon Musk Launches 'America Party' After Fallout with Trump
Billionaire Elon Musk has officially launched a new political group called the “America Party”, marking a significant split from former ally President Donald Trump.
The announcement came just a day after Musk asked his followers on X (formerly Twitter) if they wanted a new party.
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk posted.
“By a factor of two to one, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” he added.
Fallout Over Trump’s Tax Bill
The move comes right after Trump signed his much-touted “big, beautiful” tax and spending bill, which Musk strongly opposed. Musk criticized the bill, warning it would “bankrupt the country.” He blamed Trump for increasing the national deficit from an already alarming $2 trillion under Biden to $2.5 trillion.
Longstanding Tensions
Once a major Trump supporter, Musk had poured hundreds of millions into his re-election and even headed a government efficiency department during Trump’s second term. However, their relationship soured, especially over the controversial tax bill.
Threats and Consequences
Trump recently threatened to cut off federal subsidies to Musk’s companies. This political rift has raised concerns among Republicans about its impact on the 2026 midterm elections, where control of Congress could be at stake.
Historical Comparisons and Strategy
Musk likened his strategy to ancient Greek warfare, tweeting:
“The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield.”
