Major Blow to India as Brazil Ends Talks on Akash Missile Deal

19 July, 2025 18:02

India has suffered a major setback on the global stage after Brazil officially ended negotiations to purchase the Indian-made Akash missile system.

According to Deccan Herald, the talks were called off following India’s failure to offer the latest version of the Akash air defense system.

Defence Express reports that Brazilian military officials were looking for a modern, medium-to-long-range air defense system.

However, Indian companies only offered an outdated version of the missile, which Brazil rejected as “obsolete.”

The deal was estimated to be worth nearly 5 billion Indian rupees.

After calling off talks with India, Brazil has now entered discussions with Italy and is considering acquiring the EMADS (Enhanced Modular Air Defence System), Deccan Herald further reported.

India’s defeat in Operation Sandoor has already damaged the credibility of its defense exports, and this failed deal is seen as another blow to the reputation of Indian-made weapon systems.
