China Begins Construction of Mega Dam on Brahmaputra River, Raising Concerns in India
After the failure of Operation Sindoor, another diplomatic blow to India as China takes a major step in response to India’s water aggression. Following tensions in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, China adds a new chapter to the India-China conflict, preparing itself to have a control over the Brahmaputra River.
According to NDTV World, China has started construction of a mega dam with the inauguration ceremony in the presence of Prime Minister Li Qiang. The mega dam is being built on the Brahmaputra River, which flows through Tibet and India.
The dam will ensure electricity supply for Tibet and other regions and will be larger than China’s Three Gorges Dam, potentially having severe impacts on the lives of millions of people in India, as per NDTV.
The project will include five hydroelectric power stations, with investments possibly reaching 1.2 trillion yuan. Upon completion, millions of Indian citizens could face serious environmental and water-related risks, as per NDTV.
