Malta Announces Recognition of Palestine as Independent State

30 July, 2025 13:37

European country Malta has announced its decision to recognize Palestine as an independent state.

According to foreign media reports, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela stated in a message on Facebook yesterday that Malta will recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.

He said that this step will be taken during the United Nations General Assembly session in September.

He further stated that this position reflects Malta’s commitment to lasting peace in the Middle East.

It is worth noting that the Maltese government was facing growing internal pressure from within the ruling party to recognize Palestine.

Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and France had also announced their intention to recognize Palestine, while Ireland, Norway, and Spain have already officially recognized the Palestinian state.
