Canada Also Announces to Recognize Palestine State After UK, France
After France and the UK, Canada has also announced to recognize Palestinian as an independent state.
According to international media reports, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that Canada intends to recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly session in September.
He stated that Canada had hoped a two-state solution could be achieved through mutual negotiations, but now this approach no longer seems viable.
He said that he had spoken with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas over the phone, and Canada plans to recognize Palestine as a state at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Canadian Prime Minister further stated that Canada’s intention is based on the Palestinian Authority’s commitment to necessary reforms. The Palestinian Authority is determined to reform its system of governance.
Mark Carney added that the Palestinian Authority is committed to holding general elections in 2026 without Hamas. Canada condemns the fact that the Israeli government has allowed widespread destruction in Gaza.
