Australia Signals Possible Recognition of Palestinian State Soon

Australia has also signaled that it may soon recognize the State of Palestine.

According to international media reports, Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers stated in an interview that recognizing a Palestinian state is now only a matter of time.

He said that while no definitive date can be given for the recognition, it could happen very soon.

However, he added that issues such as the treatment of hostages by Hamas and the potential role of Hamas in a future Palestinian state are serious obstacles for Australia.

It is worth noting that this surprising shift in Australia’s stance came after Prime Minister Albanese had earlier stated that there were no immediate plans to recognize a Palestinian state.

This change in position may have been influenced by the announcements from France, Canada, the UK, and Malta indicating their intention to recognize Palestine by September.
