SCO Summit To Kick Off In Tianjin Today: Global Leaders Convene for Regional Dialogue
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit is all set to be held today in Tianjin, China.
China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin announced this week that over 20 foreign leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, are expected to attend the largest gathering of the regional security organization since its inception.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) includes China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus, with an additional 16 countries participating as observers or “dialogue partners.” China has consistently promoted the SCO as a counterbalance to Western-led alliances and has encouraged deeper cooperation among its member states.
On the sidelines of the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During their meeting, the two leaders pledged to strengthen cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and other sectors.
President Xi emphasized that China and Kazakhstan are strategic partners who can trust each other, adding that regardless of global circumstances, both countries should remain committed to good neighborliness.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tianjin for his official visit to China. Upon his arrival in Tianjin, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was given a red-carpet welcome. Children presented him with flowers, and the Prime Minister affectionately greeted them.
During his visit, Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and will also address the meeting.
The Prime Minister will present Pakistan’s position on efforts for peace in the region, enhancing regional connectivity, and promoting development for the people of the region.
Shehbaz Sharif will highlight the adverse effects of climate change on regional countries, including the new challenges posed by increasing natural disasters. The Prime Minister will also hold meetings with world leaders participating in the summit.
